Free imagination through reading

One of the benefits of reading is that it develops children’s imagination and their ability to create their own imagery. This is of particular importance for young children, as the imagery they experience and learn through reading prepares and “trains” their brains to absorb more complex stories and information later on. Unsurprisingly, the overflow of ready-made images (films, television) has the opposite effect, that is, it relaxes the brain. Imaging skills start to develop when children are not yet reading independently, but are read to. And the importance of this phase is shown by the fact that if children have problems with creating independent imagery, they will struggle with reading as well.
