Literature is not necessarily one of the most profitable fields in the world, but if not at other times, at least after the death of the authors, there is clearly a possibility of financial success. Book auctions are still very popular today, and the items put up for auction include works on religious themes, maps, scientific works, as well as literary works. For example, a third edition of the first collected works of Shakespeare’s works changed hands for $2.75 million in 2016, but judging by the prices, it seems that modern times are crying out for modern classics. A storyboard for Jodorowsky’s (unrealized) Dune movie sold for $3.03 million in 2022, while a handwritten and illustrated version of J.K. Rowling’s Tales of the Beetle Bard fetched $3.97 million on Amazon, even though that this is only one of seven copies in existence.
